Scurry County is inside Zone A, the biggest and most liberal Sandhill Crane hunting zone in the state, which is exactly why outfitters and traveling hunters treat Snyder as a home base rather than a drive-through. The birds funnel through the playa lakes and grain fields around here by the tens of thousands every winter, and Zone A gives hunters more days and more birds per day than either of the state's other two zones.
